It's so nice out Mar. 6th, 2009 @ 01:34 pm
So, random thought, as I was driving home from taking Jason to work and marveling at how nice it is outside. I wanna go wave running (jet skiing, seadooing, whatever you wanna call it), like, right now. I know I'll get to again in like 4 months in Myrtle Beach like I do every year, but I want to go now!

I know I have tracks and tracks of land to ride on, but I still think if I was ever given a choice of personal recreational vehicle to have, it would be a wave runner. I don't live more than a mile from the river or even a handful of miles from the closest dock. Though I don't think it would be the same as jumping waves on the ocean at 50 mph (which doesn't seem fast in a car, but on a waverunner that is only about 3 times your size, its fast).

I love the water.

Extremem Makeover: Home Edition Jan. 3rd, 2009 @ 03:20 pm
Just posting to let everyone who was interested know that the episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that took place in my neighborhood here in Pittsburgh is airing tomorrow night, Sunday, January 4th, at 8pm (eastern standard time) on ABC.

You may see me, you may not. It's kinda hard to be picked out of a sea of people all wearing the exact same thing you are. But I can tell you what shot's I was in:

The March down to the house and subsequent circling of the build team on the day of the demolition. I started off somewhere halfway up through the crowed, and by the end of the shoot, when they where taking the last of the stuff out of the house, I had made it to the front by the choir.

I was in the crowd for the Demolition, however most of the time I was helping my bro while he was taping (he was on the production team for the week), so I may not be in frame at all.

I was in a scene inside the house when Eduardo comes through and says something like "The new great room we built is as big as the Slaughter family's whole old house, and they could barely fit 7 people in there. Look how many people fit now!" and it pans over to about 30 of us volunteers packed into the great room cheering. I was standing right behind/next to the only guy with a red hardhat in the room, and I was standing on boards to be taller, but I'm still short. But that's a shot I KNOW I'm in.

I was also there for when they moved the bus, somewhere in that crowd.

I was there for when they called the family out in the morning, because they let the neighbors gather. However we are nowhere in sight, as we had to stay out of the camera view AND out of view of where the family might spot us and tip them off.

A lot of the volunteer work we did was at night, since their were less volunteers signed up for the night shift. Some of the things we helped with where the flooring of the master bedroom, moving supplies around, finishing the driveway/parking space, repaving the street, sodding the front lawn, installing the mailbox, a few other things I'm forgetting, and cleanup after production. I doubt any of which was actually on camera.

Also since our property was used as the staging area, any shot there are in my front yard, which I'm hoping doesn't look too bad on national TV >.>

I can't wait to watch because there were a lot of things I missed and a lot of things I wanna see from the camera viewpoint.

Cosplay Dec. 26th, 2008 @ 08:50 pm
Some cosplays I would like to do in the not too distant future!

First, some cosplays to do with others:
Rune Knight (version 2) to do with [info]feytaline as Warrior or Etna - "Disgaea"
San to do with [info]thepatches as Ashitaka - "Princess Mononoke"
Aeris to do with [info]thepatches, [info]goggledknight, Maegan, Dan, and whoever else as FFVII characters.
RO Hunter to go with [info]feytaline as Succubus - "Ragnarok Online" (this last one requires me to do mad sit-ups and diet before doing)

Other cosplays that require Mad Sit-Ups:
Keira - "Jak and Daxter" series
Shiki - "The world Ends With You"
Mink - "Dragon Half" (also requires me to work up the courage to wear that little in public)

Some others I would like to do:
Rhyme - "The World Ends With You"
Mai - "King of Fighters/Fatal Fury"
Deedlit - "Record of Lodoss War"
Uriko and Beast Uriko - "Bloody Roar" series

So many! Want to do them all! Cosplay with me! <3

» I AM IRONMAN!!!
...ok so not really.

However, it is now a month before the wedding, and If my wedding dress doesn't fit I'll cry. So Jason and I have started a hard core workout routine. First off, my mid section is the focus here, thats where I need my dress to fit. My waist and tummy is the last place I gain weight and the first place I lose it. So I don't see this being to hard. I also gain and lose inches FAST there (if only I could do that with my hips). My goal is to go down a pant size in 30 days, a rather realistic goal. thats way I KNOW I'll fit comfortably (don't wanna keep taking the dress out and trying it on, ya know?)

So upon Patches recommendation, we got Slimfast, as she said it works well. Starting on that today. Also been cutting out random snacking, and eating MUCH smaller portions of meals (cant NOT eat, because starving yourself slows down your metabolism, and then when you DO finally eat, do stays on you. Must eat 3 meals a day, just be smart about it). Its been nice out so I'm now walking daily.

We picked up the Ab Lounge from my parents house, and have been using that. We also picked up the extra bikes, and went bike ridding down on the trail and course next to the Police station down on Washington Blvd, which is a couple miles from my house. We are gonna try to do that about 3 times a week at least, for at least as long as we have my dad's Trailblazer (which we have till he has my car running smoothly). After we have to give diddy back the Trailblazer, we might just ride around the neighborhood (though I'm not fond of that idea, my 'hood is kinda bad)

Now hopefully I can keep this up for the next few months, and make a sexy Lina cosplay (albeit curvy, my hips and boobs never leave... lol) Power on!!!!!

» Broken car is broken... again.
Impala is broken... again. Actually, its been broken for awhile, but now the problem has become unavoidable. This is a different problem from the last problem I posted about. The O2 sensor is fine now, it got replaced when the car got inspected, so it's not wastefully running through the engine like shit through a chicken anymore. And we also got a new radiator. However, the engine needs a head gasket replaced. My dad has the part, but he just needed a weekend where he could sit down and take apart the engine, and for a busy guy like my dad, that kinda time is rare to come by.

He has what we call "The never ending to-do list". He is involved in so much and has so many random things that need done, that the only way something jumps to the top of that list is if the need to be done has finally become critical.

The car is finally at that critical point. With the bad head gasket, coolant seems to be leaking into the motor oil (doesn't look like it was the gasoline thinning the oil after all). This is making the oil thin which is causing friction, which is heating the engine up faster than normal (I think). Unfortunately, with the coolant leaking into the oil, its not doing its job of staying in the radiator and cooling. there is also some other issue with the coolant we havent figured out yet that seems to be causing it not to circulate properly.

The result, may car has overheated, twice now. The first time my dad and I thought it was a weird fluke, cause the engine doesn't run hard (like an overheated engine tends to do) and the engine itself wasn't that hot, well, not much hotter than normal. And it cools down really fast.

This time not even the trick of blasting the heat to draw it from the engine worked. In fact, the heat just stopped working... period. Like I would crank it, all the way on, on high heat, with the AC button off, and it would blow out chilled air. It never heated up. Occasionally the heat would suddenly warm up for a second, and the temp gage for the engine would go down, then a couple seconds later, cold again and the temp gage for the engine would go back up. That problem my be linked to this as well.

Needless to say, Impala is out of commission for a few days, as my dad is taking the weekend to take it apart. Good weekend to do that though, cause Jason and I hadn't really made any plans for this weekend seeing as we both work. We do have the Trailblazer for the weekend though, so if we do do anything, we aren't stuck.

Hopefully Impala well finally run smoothly again after this weekend... hopefully.
» Next Cosplay
So the next costume I'm working on is Lina Inverse, (and Gourry for Jason) and since these costumes may end up a bit pricey, I'm starting now and trying to spread the cost out over a longer period of time.

I'm doing this version, seen here too, because A) I like the fur on the gloves and the little capelet, and B) It would be more flattering to my body type than this outfit, (Full body view)
I mean, Lina is nowhere near as curvy as I am, so having bold yellow fabric drawing attention to my boobs and ass would not be the best thing to do, unless of course busty Lina was the goal.

But I may need help with some things...

I Am A: Neutral Good Human Druid (3rd Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-12

Dexterity-14

Constitution-13

Intelligence-15

Wisdom-13

Charisma-11

Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Druids gain power not by ruling nature but by being at one with it. They hate the unnatural, including aberrations or undead, and destroy them where possible. Druids receive divine spells from nature, not the gods, and can gain an array of powers as they gain experience, including the ability to take the shapes of animals. The weapons and armor of a druid are restricted by their traditional oaths, not simply training. A druid's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that they can cast.

» If Something CAN Go Wrong... The Day That Luck YoYoed Me.
First off, this is gonna be long and detailed, but I feel like yapping, you know I NEVER do woe-is-me posts or anything like that, so you KNOW this is hella crappy if IM ranting about it... at length. So just please bare with me ^_^

So, as many of you know, Jason has been having some tooth/jaw irritations the past couple weeks but has no dental. Well on the plus we discovered a place that for those who qualify (which Jason does) and by qualify means within 150% of the poverty level, has no dental insurance, no significant savings, and requires MAJOR dental work, service is absolutely free. But unfortunately they don't have emergency service and there is an application process and such.

well it got so severe that Jason couldn't stand it anymore and we went to Pitt Dental School (which for those of you without dental and need quick treatment cheap, I HIGHLY recommend.)
There emergency walk in service is only open from 8:30 - 10:30 am and is first come first serve, but is only $40 without insurance, which is awesome considering dental rates.

So yesterday starts with us getting up early to get Jason there. We get there just fine, but, of course, as any of you probably know about Oakland, parking is nearly impossible, every garage was even full. Well to let you know where the dental school is, for any of you who know Oakland will know exactly where I'm talkin about, its halfway up THE HILL. You know, where all the hospitals are? yeah, there. well the only parking I could find was a tiny lot with meters at the TOP of the hill. AND the meter's max time limit is 30 mins. So we had to park and walk down the hill in the windy snowy cold. After getting Jason in, and dropping the $40 up front, I knew he'd most likely take at LEAST an hour, so I had to go back up to the car... in the blustery cold. needless to say I have developed a chest cold now from it. also, we had no more quarters, so I had told Jason I was going to kill time and find somewhere to get change to park again and be back in a little, then I left.

Back on the road, I decide to explore to find a place to make change and kill time, and of course to do that I would have to leave Oakland and find a place with a parking lot. So I make my way back down the backside of THE HILL, and suddenly, my brakes give out and I barley stop in time to avoid the bus in front of me which was a good ways down the hill from me to begin with, that tells ya how long it took me to stop with the brake TO THE FLOOR!!! also, for those of you who don't know of THE HILL, in the hospital district there is a GIANT, STEEP AS FUCK (like 45 degrees steep), so steep that when you take the skywalks from one hospital to the next (no stairs mind you) you've numerically gone up or down 3 floors from the previous building.

but anyway, you get the point, steep, not brakes. luckily the back side of the hill is residential, so there was limited parking along the street, so I pulled over, parked, and panicked. I tried and tried my brakes, but I had zero pressure. I had no brake fluid to put in it, and I wouldn't have known where to go or how to get there to get some. So as I usually do when I have car trouble, I called my dad. but he was in a meeting and couldn't take a call, and I later found out he was at a meeting up in cranberry, so he couldn't come to my rescue if I had gotten through. so I tried my brother, but he was heading to class and said he wouldn't know what to even if he could come to help, but suggested that I emergency-brake it somewhere but thats all he could think of. so after 15 or 20 mins of panicking and nearly crying, I took a chance and used the hand/e-brake, which I'm glad I have a hand e-brake and not a foot one, and for those of you who've had foot ones understand why.

so I e-braked it all the way back to Penn Hills, partly out of desperation and partly cause thats where the roads lead me. Having only an e-brake on the highway is scary but I had no choice. all the while, Jason is still in Oakland, with no way of knowing that I can't get back to him. Everyone remotely close that I could have called was either at work or class. well I make it to an advanced auto, and buy a pint of brake fluid. I put it in when I realize that much of my fluid has leaked out somehow, but i wasn't dripping anything, so to where it leaked, I don't know. hoping that the refill would fix it, I try again, and it helping a fraction of a bit, but nothing significant. so I e-brake it the rest of the way home. now my focus is how I'm gonna get Jason from Oakland, and, assuming he was done by then, in time for him to get to work.

well, I knew Ed had classes on Tuesday, but something told me to at least call him. This is where my luck picked up. ed was actually home! both his classes where canceled, his first one cause his teacher needed to pick someone up at the airport, and the second cause his other teacher was too depressed about the previous nights football game to come in! so ed came and got me so we could go get Jason.

now in all this, I had started that woman time, which i new was coming, but really punctuated a crappy day and adding to my illness. Before I leave I call Jason's work to let them know the situation (which they new the dental thing might make him late already) and then we leave. on our way out there, Jason calls and says he's done... for a little bit, and is going into surgery at 1, and it was noon. so we meet up with him and get some lunch, well, Ed and I do, Jason is just trying to practice getting his mouth open wide enough for them to do surgery. they were gonna wait till next week to pull the tooth, but the surgeon told him he needed to pull it now. it was infected, and the reason Jason was having trouble opening his jaw all the way was cause it was swollen. the doctor was worried that the infection would get so bad that the swelling would close up his airways and he would choke to death.

So the surgery is another $50, which for what it is, its still crazy cheap, but we are now out $90 so far. so Ed and I go kill time as the remove the tooth. when we are done, we head to go get Jason's scripts filled and let them know he really can't work today. All went well, but to get his antibiotics and Vicodin, was yet another $50. So now we've had to drop $140. we go back home, and I check the car again, still no break pressure. then I remember that the insurance had lapsed and we need to pay it, especially considering recent events AND the continuing snow. So I get on the phone, renew the car insurance, and drop yet another $112 bringing us up to $252 paid in a day.

So my dad has gotten back to me by this point and comes to help me get the car back to his house so he can figure out whats wrong. luckily he drives it this time and I drive his trailblazer ahead of him so that if he did end up colliding with the car in front of him, it would at least be his own car. needless to say my day of working on costumes and cleaning has been shot to hell and back. so my dad takes works on the break system and kinda fixes them. The reason they failed was because of the amount of air in the system, which he bled out. but he couldn't find why or where all that brake fluid leaked out of, so thats another thing that needs looked at, in addition to the exhaust an speedometer. so my dad doesn't want me to drive it excessively and unnecessarily, till he can actually take it to the shop. And buy needless and excessive, he means only when he or my mom can't feasibly get one of us too or from work.

This means for now, probably till after this weekend, my car is out of commission for anything except ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY means. this in addition with the massive hit to out funds as well as the fact that next week's funds will be strained greatly as well, between my small paycheck, the cable being due, and needing to get supplies for cleaning, decorating, and stuff for the Christmas party next weekend as well as actually getting people's gifts and registering for the con, I doubt that we will be doing much of anything this weekend, sorry to say. But unfortunate events arise that need to be dealt as I'm sure you all understand. I apologize for any and all plans for this weekend that this will probably kill.

Thanks for actually baring with me, you all are great and I love you guys! Yesterday was just a tough day.

I Am A: Chaotic Good Elf Ranger Druid

Alignment:
Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups.

Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.

Primary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Secondary Class:
Druids are a special variety of Cleric who serves the Earth, and can call upon the power in the earth to accomplish their goals. They tend to be somewhat fanatical about defending natural settings.

Deity:
Solonor Thelandria is the Chaotic Good elven god of archery and the hunt. He is also known as the Keen Eye, the Great Archer, and the Forest Hunter. His followers respect nature, and only hunt when needed, but are quick to defend the forest from intruders. Their favorite weapon is the bow, and they tend to be extremely talented with it. Solonor Thelandria's symbol is an arrow with green fletchings.
